Furniture tip-overs are more common than you would think. In fact, it is estimated that over 38,000 emergency department-treated injuries are associated with TV or furniture tip-overs.

To keep you and your family safe, we have compiled a few prevention tips, along with instructions on how to secure your new furniture with the tip restraints that we have provided. Please be aware that these restraints will reduce, but not completely eliminate the risk of tip-overs.

PREVENTION TIPS

Follow these simple steps to protect a child or anyone from injury or death

DO NOT place TVs atop dressers.

PLACE TVs on low, strong bases. They should only be placed on furniture designed to hold a TV, such as television stands or media units.

FOLLOW the manufacturer’s instructions when securing furniture or TVs.

ANCHOR furniture and TVs with tipping restraints. Affix anti-tip devices to new furniture immediately.

NEVER allow children to climb or play on furniture. They should be supervised at all times.

REMOVE items that might tempt children to climb on furniture, such as toys and remote controls, from the top of furniture.

KEEP TV and/or cable cords out of the reach of children.

MOUNT flat-screen TVs to the wall or furniture to prevent them from toppling over. CRT televisions should only be placed on furniture designed to hold a television and should be anchored to the wall or TV stand.

MAKE SURE freestanding kitchen ranges and stoves are installed with anti-tip brackets.

ENSURE the anti-tip device used complies with ASTM standard F3096-14 Standard Performance for Tip-over Restraint(s) Used with Clothing Storage Unit(s).
